Chat guide

Everything you need for your first chat — and your hundredth.

01Your first minute

  1. Say hi. “Hi all!” is perfect. Don't worry if nobody answers straight away — people may be busy or in another time zone.
  2. Read the room. Spend a minute seeing what people are talking about before jumping in.
  3. Keep messages short. Several short lines read better than one huge paragraph.
  4. Ask before private messaging. It's polite to ask in the room before you PM someone new.
